Ty Johnston-Chavis


Ty Johnston is the Founder and CEO of T.Y. Entertainment. She is responsible for all creative and business decisions, including the creation, development, acquisition, sale and production of scripted and unscripted television and new media projects. Ty has created and produced original scripted content and reality television for numerous networks and production companies.

Ty has been in the entertainment business for more that 20 years and has established herself internationally as a leader and influential collaborator with a wide range of networks including Viacom Media Networks, Style-E, Discovery Communications (TLC & OWN), UPTV, Aspire TV, TVOne (Radio One), The SPEED Channel, ESPN, AXS TV and ZNS TV (an International channel) just to name a few. In addition, she has worked closely with TV and film veterans such as Mark Koops, executive producer and creator of The Biggest Loser and Ugly Betty, award winning filmmaker Tracey Edmonds of Soul Food and Jumping the Broom, executive producer & creator Mona Scott-Young of Love and Hip Hopand legendary filmmaker Robert Townsend of The Five Heartbeats, Parenthood and The Meteor Man.

In 2011, Ty launched The Atlanta Pitch Summit, a marketplace where screenwriters and producers pitch film and TV projects to key entertainment executives. Since its launch, The Atlanta Pitch Summit has connected many aspiring artists with Hollywood decision makers including producer Will Packer, Screen Gems Studios SVP Kris Bagwell and Connie Orlando, VP of Original Programming at BET.

Ty continues to create and produce feature films and television projects using new media strategies including Video On DEMAND and Digital Distribution. She also leverages the universal market by partnering with affiliates such as Netflix, Best Buy, Amazon, and new original programming providers and other executive producers and networks. For her documentary, Father Forgive Them, she produced and directed with Moguldum Films.

Ty’s latest international SAG film LOVE BY CHANCE premiered in South Africa on April 25, 2017 and opening in AMC theatres this summer on July 28th. Her past film WHAT LOVE WILL MAKE YOU DO, premiered on Centric/BET Network in February 2016 and still airing. The film stars television veterans Victoria Rowell (Young and the Restless), Darrin Henson (Soul Food), Brad James (For Better or for Worse), Carl Payne (Martin) and a host of other actors.

Ty is a former college professor in the Digital Filmmaking Department of The Art Institute of Atlanta and the Video and Audio Departments of American Intercontinental University. Ty has served as the Director of PR & Media for Full Gospel Baptist Church International Fellowship. She is a founding board member for Miss Bahamas Organization, a 2013 & 2014 honoree for Who’s Who In Black Atlanta and a founding board member of Project Humana Life (PHL-Haiti). Ty’s focus for PHL-Haiti’s organization is to strengthen communications among people in different parts of the world who are engaged in development programs that would encourage underprivileged children and their critical decision-making. Ty’s youth was split between Bristol, Connecticut and Savannah, Georgia and she is a graduate of Florida State University. She currently lives in Atlanta with her husband where they own three restaurants and she's a proud mother of Kennedy, Karis and Kyler.
